MCP integrates BitTorrent file sharing system, using P2P protocol.
P2P protocols have the interesting feature that downloading a file is done collaboratively between different network clients. This means that the download is not based on the typical one-to-one client-server system.
The integration of a P2P protocol in MCP ensures unlimited scalability as a media distribution is concerned. Some advantages of this technology are:
- All Players act as client and server simultaneously.
- The more players installed, the less data traffic and bandwidth consumption on the server side.
- By not having a unique data source, there is not a unique point of failure.
A mature P2P transfer system, such as BitTorrent, guarantees one of the most critical concerns in a Digital Signage platform: The efficient and scalable distribution of heavy content over the internet (such as High Definition Video).
The MCP media distribution system also supports sending content to the Players via direct download (HTTP), for network environments in which it is not possible to use P2P technology.
See more information about the MCP scalability on page Distribution Network XMPP messages. The effective distribution of messages to the Players is another critical point of a robust software solution for Digital Signage like MCP.
